Chart Spark: Innovative Thinking in Data Communication

About this course

Chart Spark is a creativity course made specifically for data professionals who want to communicate data in new, impactful, and creative ways — and to be valued for how they think, not just how well they use software tools. Taught by information designer and Data Viz Today host Alli Torban, the course reframes creativity as an active, learnable practice rather than a lucky strike of inspiration. It is organized into three sets of tools: - **Care** for your innate creativity so you can recognize ideas and avoid burnout (the Bad Gifts, X-RAY, and Recess List prompts). - **Coax** ideas out when you feel stuck (the Idea Isosceles, Break-the-Box, and CTR prompts). - **Communicate** those ideas effectively (the 4Q, Haystack, and Tango prompts). Each prompt comes with a short video and a creative exercise. Use your own notebook or download the companion Spark Journal to work through the prompts, and read or listen along — Alli narrates each section from the Chart Spark audiobook.
